Man arrested for knife threats

A 28-year-old Marathon man was arrested Sunday night for threating to cut another man.

There were no injuries in the scuffle.

Daniel Christopher Gomez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Deputies Garrett Bragg, Jorge Moreno and Andersen Harrill were called to the Tom Thumb, 2690 Overseas Highway, at 10:22 p.m. reference to an assault that occurred. The victim and suspect were still on scene.

The 56-year-old victim told Deputy Harrill he was leaving the gas station and getting ready to cross U.S. 1 when Gomez — who was sitting near a light pole — started calling him foul names. The victim stated Gomez had been harassing him the last few days and he didn’t know why. The victim told Gomez to leave him alone. Gomez then stood up and asked him if he wanted to fight. An argument ensued when Gomez pulled out a short knife and threatened to cut the victim from one cheek to the other. The victim then ran to the gas station and called 911.

A knife matching the description given by the victim was found in Gomez’s possession. Gomez admitted he pulled a knife out on the victim.

Gomez was taken to jail.
