FRINGE THEATER PRESENTS TWO GREAT SHOWS IN ONE WEEK!

Fringe Theater, Key West’s vagabond theater troupe, presents two great plays in the next eight days: a new musical It’s About Time (April 24 25) presented at Key West Theater and Golda’s Balcony (May 1-3) presented at our local synagogue.

Fringe slips into venues as available, so we’ve ended up with two great shows back-to-back,” says Fringe Board President Janet Bengel. “We know our audiences will love them both.”

It’s About Time, written by local actor Don Bearden, is an old-fashion story of romance and time travel set in the Belasco Theater in NYC. “We loved the idea of producing a play about producing a play – and the Key West Theater is a lovely venue for the story,” Janet continues. “Our cast and creative team are so talented – this new script could not be in better hands!”

The world premiere of It’s About Time is directed by Cameron Murray, with musical direction and score prep by Vincent Zito, choreography by Carolyn Cooper, and light design by Jules Conn. The cast includes Luke Fox, Rhett Kalman, Belle Jampol, Rosie Mayne, David Black, Vanessa McCaffrey, Mathias Maloff, John Reynolds, Martha Hooten, and Arthur Crocker.

It’s About Time closes April 25. Showtime is 7pm (house opens at 6:30pm) at the Key West Theater, located at 512 Eaton Street.

Ironically, Fringe goes from its largest production of the season to its smallest production the following week, with Golda’s Balcony, a one-woman show directed by Glenda Donovan and starring Annie Miners. This riveting one-woman show examines the life of Golda Meir and her transformative journey from a Milwaukee schoolteacher to Prime Minister of Israel.

This compelling and insightful show ultimately asks the question “How far is too far?”

Golda’s Balcony, written by William Gibson, was nominated for a Tony and awarded a Drama Desk Award. It’s also the longest running one-woman show in Broadway history!

Annie Miners is a talented actor who works practically non-stop behind the scenes for almost all of the theaters in town. We’re so pleased that Fringe can showcase her in this production,” adds Janet. Annie is also an accomplished director. Audiences are still talking about her production of Collected Stories produced by Fringe Theater earlier this season.

Golda’s Balcony runs May 1 and 2 at 7pm and May 3 at 5pm at B-nai Zion Congregation, located at 750 United Street. Doors will open half hour before showtime.

Tickets are available for both of these productions at www.fringetheater.org or by calling Fringe Theater at 305-731-0581. Fringe Theater is a local nonprofit that creates unique opportunities for people to see and do theater. For more information, please go to www.fringetheater.org.
