Man arrested for methamphetamine trafficking
A 58-year-old Fredericksburg, Virginia man was arrested Sunday night after he was found to be in possession of more than 30 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
John William Garwood was charged with amphetamine trafficking, marijuana possession, failure to register a stolen vehicle, license tag theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputy Ana Coello responded to assist a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer who was at Mile Marker 81 on U.S. 1 with a BMW Z3 driven by Garwood. Garwood said he bought the BMW a few days prior and drove it from Wildwood, Florida to the Keys.
911 Communications Specialists told Deputy Coello the tag attached to the BMW was reported stolen out of Sumter County, Florida. Garwood admitted he took the tag off his girlfriend’s car and without her permission. Garwood was placed into custody for a stolen tag at that time.
The following were found after a search of the BMW:
- 34.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine;
- 13.3 grams of marijuana;
- Three pipes.
Garwood was taken to jail.
