Thank you for your article on four reasons to save the Everglades. As a Florida native, I can think of so many, many more. What we can do as residents is stop watering lawns and putting in irrigation systems. That’s what I have done at my home and we still have a very beautiful garden – you would never know there’s no supplemental irrigation because it stands out as a flowering, green landscape, including our green lawn, without any supplemental water. It’s only a matter of choosing the right plants. And that doesn’t mean only using native plants. You can use a few natives and lots of beautiful flowering tropicals. I hope we can all do our best to preserve and protect our native habitat for animals, birds, insects and ourselves.
