Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy arrested for DUI
Key West Police arrested a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy early Wednesday morning for DUI.
Julian Cesar Andrews, 27, was arrested about 2:10 a.m. Andrews was also issued a citation for speeding.
Andrews works at the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island.
A Key West Police Officer was running radar while doing traffic enforcement on North Roosevelt Boulevard when he stopped a silver Mercedes-Benz car after noting it was traveling 49 mph in a 35 mph zone. The traffic stop was made near 14th Street and North Roosevelt Boulevard. The driver was identified as Andrews. Andrews stated he didn’t realize he was speeding. There was a concealed Sig Saur P320 pistol in the glovebox for which Andrews has a concealed carry permit.
The Key West Police Officer noted Andrews had red, glassy eyes, that his speech was slurred and his movements were slow. The officer noted Andrews smelled of alcohol. Andrews agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, which he failed.
Andrews was taken to jail. He refused to take a breath test at the jail.
The Sig Saur pistol was placed into Key West Police property.
Andrews was hired in September 2013. His annual salary is approximately $54,000.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division.
