LETTER TO THE EDITOR / A PEACEABLE KINGDOM

Roger C. Kostmayer

Something simple but special happened in Key West last weekend. Duval Street was returned to the people in the form of the Duval Promenade pilot project.

Instead of Duval Street being something Key Westers avoided, and instead of noxious motorcycle noise, automotive pollution and packed sidewalks – neighbors greeted neighbors in the open space, friendly police were helpful hosts, strangers chatted about the beautiful evening as families strolled in Key West’s welcoming and elongated public square.

Key West should be proud to have a Mayor and City Commissioners who are committed to bringing the community together with intelligent solutions that improve our quality of life. And, I suspect, this amazing start won’t be the last we see.
