Rescue Tails / Harriet the Pig – Part One
Harriett’s story is best told through images. The pictures her adoptive family have shared say everything that needs to be said about love, respect, commitment, and family! This little pig could not have found a better home. She was originally intended to be a child’s therapy animal. But when the family situation changed, she was brought to the shelter, one of many pot-bellied pigs that have come to us.
The average teacup pig can weigh 80-120 lbs or more as an adult. Reputable sanctuaries are overflowing with unwanted pigs who were sold as “micro” or “teacup” pigs to uneducated people by unscrupulous sellers.
When Harriett arrived, we called Rooterville and other pig rescues but they were all full. We panicked because finding good homes for pigs is incredibly hard. But the Porcine Goddesses were looking out for our little girl. It turned out that local veterinarian Dr. Michael Dunn and his wife Catherine love pigs, already had one named Tink, and agreed to foster Harriett while we looked for an adopter. Of course, it didn’t take before “foster” turned into “home” and Harriett’s new life began.
