Man arrested for DUI after crashing into mangroves

A 30-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested early Saturday morning after crashing a Ford Ranger pickup truck into the mangroves near Mile Marker 25.5.

Justin Lee Marconi was charged with DUI and DUI causing property damage.

Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Ryan Chlebanowksi and Road Patrol Deputy Jonathan Lane responded to Mile Marker 25.5 at 1:21 a.m. to find the pickup truck in the mangroves and a man, identified as Marconi, sitting nearby. Marconi was bleeding heavily from the nose. A tree branch crashed through the windshield of the pickup truck and was on the passenger seat. There was a significant amount of blood around the driver’s side of the pickup truck. There were no other people present. Deputy Chlebanowksi determined Marconi to be the driver. Marconi was subsequently searched and the vehicle key was found in Marconi’s pocket.

Marconi refused to undergo field sobriety tests. Marconi feel asleep in Chlebanowksi’s patrol vehicle while en route to jail.

Marconi was booked into jail.
