Man found deceased on Sugarloaf Key
The remains of a man reported missing out of Key West on Jan. 6 were found on Sugarloaf Key Wednesday morning.
The man was identified as Ray Martin Kauffman, 64, formerly of the 800 block of Catherine Street.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Kauffman’s sport utility vehicle parked at the end of Sugarloaf Boulevard at Old State Road 4A about 9 a.m. The officers and deputies were searching for Kauffman after receiving a missing person alert issued by Key West Police.
Kauffman’s remains were then found in a field off a wooded trial beyond the barricaded end of Sugarloaf Boulevard at Old State Road 4A.
There were no indications of foul play.
The autopsy is pending.
