Man sentenced to 76 months for violating probation

A Miami man with a long criminal history has been sentenced to 76 months in state prison for violating probation in a case that goes back more than five years.

Eddie Damon Jr., 38 admitted to the violation on December 17 before Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Mark Jones, who handed down the sentence. Assistant State Attorney Christina Cory represented the state.

Damon was originally arrested on August 8, 2013, on a charge of sale of cocaine. That arrest stemmed from a Key West Police Department undercover operation on July 19 that year in which Damon sold .3 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential informant for $40. He pleaded no contest and then-Circuit Court Judge David Audlin sentenced him to 50 months in prison followed by 36 months of probation.

He was released from prison in February 2017 and in May that year was arrested for violating probation for not paying court-ordered costs and testing positive for cocaine in a urinalysis test. On July 5 that year, then-Judge Wayne Miller placed Damon on probation again for three years.

Then in August that year, he was arrested again for violating probation by getting arrested for battery, among other things. That November, Judge Jones extended his probation by 60 months.

Damon was arrested again in October this year for violating probation for testing positive for marijuana and failure to attend support group meetings. The probation violation, like the others, stemmed from the 2013 cocaine conviction. For this violation he was sentenced to the 76 months in prison.

This will be Damon’s third stint in prison. He has previously been imprisoned for burglary, grand theft auto, robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault and cocaine possession.
