Two men arrested in Upper Keys burglary
Two Miami men were arrested Wednesday morning for burglary after some quick police work by Upper Keys deputies.
Alfredo Lopez Somarriba, 28, and Yoandy Mora Perez, 34, were both charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle, two counts of larceny and possession of burglary tools and cocaine possession. Mora Perez was additionally charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling. Lopez Somarriba was additionally charged with possession of marijuana.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified about 2:30 a.m. by two residents at 153 Iroquois Drive in Islamorada that two men had left the duel-residence property in a red car. The property consists of a primary upstairs unit and a downstairs apartment. The man in the primary upstairs unit reported being awoken by a man with a flashlight. When the resident asked who it was, the intruder left. The upstairs resident got up, retrieved a gun and a flashlight and proceeded to make sure no one else was in his apartment. He reported seeing a red car leaving the area with its headlights turned off. Deputies radioed that information to other deputies also on road patrol.
The upstairs resident and downstairs resident both reported their vehicles parked outside had been burglarized. Both reported their vehicles were left unlocked. Both reported finding their vehicle’s doors open. Both reported missing an array of personal effects such as credit cards, sunglasses, keys, small construction tools, knives and personal identification such as drivers licenses among other items.
Meanwhile, Deputies Nestor Argote and Joel Torres spotted a red, Chevrolet Cruz northbound on U.S. 1 and stopped it at Mile Marker 92. Some of the items reported stolen were in plain view inside the car. A further search of the car yielded one victim’s driver license and ultimately, all of the missing items. Small amounts of marijuana and cocaine were also found in the car.
Lopez Somarriba and Mora Perez was taken to the Sheriff’s Office Plantation Key office where they were questioned by detectives.
Lopez Somarriba and Mora Perez were then taken to jail.
