A FREE SUMMER OF MUSIC CONCERTS COULD COME TO KEY WEST IN 2019!

Key West is officially in the running to bring a 10-12 week live music series to the Key West Amphitheater at Truman Waterfront in the summer of 2019.

Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, Key West is vying to qualify as one of 15 winning organizations in the Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards.

The Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards are an exciting matching grant opportunity created by the Levitt Foundation to serve small to mid-sized towns and cities with populations up to 400,000. Up to 15 nonprofits will receive $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series—an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians.

We’ve Got The Keys and A.H of Monroe County, Inc. (AH) submitted the proposal for Key West.

“Key West prides itself on its reputation as a community of artists,” comments Scott Pridgen, Executive Director AH, “and our island teems with talent: musical, literary, painting, photography. AH strongly believes that everyone’s vision should be encouraged…and one sure way is by example. A free, family-friendly concert series like this will provide culture and entertainment, without increasing the financial burden for locals.”

Online public voting began November 1st and concludes November 20th at 5:00 p.m.

This campaign, urges Nadene Grossman Orr, owner of We’ve Got The Keys, “is dependent on community participation. We need as many online votes as possible to bring this series to town.”

The benefits, both Pridgen and Grossman Orr, are many.  Summer concerts will bring added revenue to nearby businesses as concertgoers spend money at restaurants and shops on their way to and from; will build awareness for the Truman Waterfront space; and will reinforce the town’s efforts to create an open space for families and  youngest residents.

Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners. Supporters are asked to visit https://grant.levittamp.org/events-page/  to register and vote.

The Top 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. The Levitt Foundation will then review the proposals of these 25 finalists and will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners, which will be announced on December 18, 2018.
