Announcing Mystick Krewe of Key West King & Queen
The Mystick Krewe of Key West, headed by Captain and founder Valsin Marmillion, announced its 2019 King and Queen on September 29th at its annual members only Ugly Jacket Party. King Chase Hurst and Queen Diane Eliopoulos will begin their reign in February in grand style at the Krewe’s annual Ball. This party with a purpose event, chaired by Craig Martin & his committee of doers, worked overtime and successfully raised over $23,000+ in just 3 hours; while having incredible fun. The KW Yacht Club was creatively transformed into a Monopoly themed venue consisting of a jail, giant balloon Monopoly man, unique games, lights and dance music. The members jackets were over the top. The winner of the golden hanger award went to James Braun and the silver hanger went to Laurie Skinner. The proceeds of this year’s party silent auction & fundraiser goes to supporting our local school children’s meal programs and helping to finalize the purchase of the KW High School band uniforms. Many families still feeling the financial effects of Irma and struggling with high cost of living expenses find themselves having trouble paying for school meals. These students are offered an alternate lunch consisting of a cold cheese sandwich. Some students choose not to accept due to the stigma and embarrassment and go the day hungry. The big hearted party goers were passionate in wanting to help and gave generously to assist in feeding our local kids.
