LETTER TO THE EDITOR / PROFILES IN COURAGE – OR COWARDICE
Roger C. Kostmayer
Judge Kavanaugh said the “most fundamental thing” for a judge is not to “be a jerk”. He explained that expression as: being biased, intemperate, arrogant, political, lacking credibility and respect from others. And those were the exact things most viewers saw when he testified and was bellicose, defensive, partisan and rude to the people’s Senators.
Based on their vote for or against promoting Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States, Senators Susan Collins (R), Lisa Murkowski (R), Heidi Heitcamp (D), Jeff Flake (R), and Joe Manchin )D) will go down in history as American heroes, or they’ll reinforce the public’s disgust with weak and selfish partisans.
Events and a deeply flawed process are happening at warp speed, but by Friday (10//5) two women Senators, Heidi Heitcamp and Lisa Murkowski (one Democrat, one Republican) courageously stood up to enormous pressure and said they would vote “no”. They follow in the footsteps of former Senator Margaret Chase Smith who, in 1950, was the only Republican to stand up to fellow Republican Senator and notorious abuser of power and innocent victims, Joe McCarthy. It took 4 more years before the male Republicans summoned the courage to do the same.
The question is, or was: will the other key Senators (Collins, Flake and Manchin) show the courage of strong and patriotic women like Senators M.C. Smith, Murkowski and Heitcamp; or follow the feckless men who waited 4 more years.
History will be an unforgiving judge.

Does this writer have some sort of Monopoly on letters to the editor? Is this publication only interested in one very partisan view of the world? Did this writer even listen to Senator Collins’ 45 minute speech explaining why she is voting the way she is? She put in more time to research her decision unlike those on the other side who expressed a NO vote before the candidate was even named?. Does this writer believe in Guilty until proven innocent? Does this writer really want a Justice that would sit quietly while a bunch of Moron Senators destroyed his life with lies and unproven innuendo? Of course he pushed and fought back, No man, father or son should sit quietly while taking such abuse. Does this writer believe Feinstein did the right thing by doing nothing to help the Victim who came forward to her? Does this writer actually believe the Democrats on the committee treat the Dr. well. Sure seems like they wrecked her life along with the Judges. This writer describes those who don’t have his particular viewpoint as unpatriotic. This writer sure seems simple and closed minded and ignores the facts.
BTW Knonk Life if your excuse to only publishing letters by this writer is due to lack of others I say , publish nothing if you only can publish 1 voice.
You are welcome to send one of your own.
Roger, time to get to your safe space with your supply of coloring books and crayons. Hope you have a blankie and binkie. The fetal position is preferred to sulk. (Also the 2018 midterms are coming where the wave will turn into a Socialist Dem riptide, taking them out to sea).
Watching some of the hearing and the aftermath leading to the votes was not reading the “Profiles in Courage”. Rather like watching the movie “Wizard of Oz”. Many a Senator were the Scarecrow (needing a brain), a Tin Man (needing a heart), and a plethora of Cowardly Lions (desperately needing courage).
Judge Kavanaugh, soon to be Justice SCOTUS, was the epitome of “Profiles in Courage”. He was actually restrained.
Senate approves Kavanaugh.
Socialist Democrats receive another Participation Prize, good job!
Another MAGAficient victory….they just keep on coming. Another 1 or 2 SCOTUS Justices possible. Ginsburg ain’t looking good probably something about “repressed memories about the good ole days”.
Now the scholarly tomes are awaited about “wait for the 2018 election” and after that “wait for the 2020 election”.
