United Airlines to Expand Service to Key West from Newark and Chicago

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Expanded air service to Key West International Airport from New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport is to begin this fall and from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in mid-December.

Beginning Oct. 4, United Airlines will shift from seasonal to year-round daily nonstop service to Key West on United Express 70-seat Embraer E170 regional jets. During peak travel season, February through May, United also is to add a second daily Key West–Newark flight.

Newark is one of three major airports serving greater New York City.

“We are thrilled to offer our customers more opportunities to escape the hustle and bustle to the tropical paradise of Key West,” said Ankit Gupta, United Airlines’ vice president of domestic network planning. “Increasing to year-round service provides more flights for our customers to plan their visits to the Florida Keys all year.”

From mid-December through May 2019, United also is increasing its Key West–Chicago service to daily. From June 2 through mid-December, United is to operate nonstop weekend service on Saturdays and Sundays between Key West and Chicago, and is set to provide nonstop Saturday and Sunday summer service between Key West and Newark.

“This is excellent news from United,” said Don DeGraw, director of airports for the Florida Keys & Key West. “Daily year-round service to Newark will be a huge benefit for our customers.”

United originally launched seasonal, daily nonstop service from Newark and Chicago to Key West in December 2016.
