Chorale concert on Sunday, April 15th
A new era in choral singing will begin on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 4 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Key West, when the newest choral group in town, the Keys Choral Arts, has their premier concert. Tim Peterson, the director of music at St. Paul’s, has been appointed the director for the new, not-for-profit organization. Ann McFarland, organist at Old Stone Key West United Methodist Church, serves as the pianist for this concert.
After hearing comments and receiving suggestions from local singers, it was clear that there was a real need for a community chorus in Key West. Pam Satek, one of the founding members of the chorus, and its vice-president, was instrumental in getting the organization on its feet. “I just want to sing, here, in my community”, she says. Others feel the same. Paul Hayes, also a singer, and the president of the new Choral Arts, says that “singing is my therapy”.
The chorus has been practicing since early February for this concert. “There are more than 50 singers, from Marathon to Key West, and we are ready to show our audience what we are all about”, says Mr. Peterson. “We will be singing pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, Gabriel Fauré, Randall Thompson, Billy Joel, and others, so we should be accessible to everyone. We have the chorus, NOW we need an audience!” Come out and hear what the buzz is all about! $20 cash or check at the door.
