Aversion to ‘nation-building or easy way out?
“If we stay any longer we will in effect be taking sides in a civil war. Up
until now, we have avoided that because we focused on ISIS,” said Mark
Cancian, a senior adviser with the Center for Strategic and International
Studies. “It would be a classic example of mission creep, that is, we got
into the war focused on ISIS, now we’re going to expand what we are doing to
participate in a civil war and there’s a huge downside.”
So many words to conceal the fact that we don’t relish pitting our forces
against the Turks….
By pulling chalks prematurely, we are not only throwing the Peshmerga Kurds,
our most reliable partners in the region under the bus, but are de-facto
helping the Turks to run rough shot over Syria and denying Kurds their dream
of reestablishing Kurdistan. Ottoman dreams never die. They just simmer
along…and this helps put wind in their sails.
