Mel Fisher Maritime Museum 2018 Spring Speaker Series Continues

Tuesday, February 20, at 6:30pm, the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum welcomes photographer, publicist and historic shipwreck professional Carol Tedesco, who will give a 50-minute PowerPoint presentation on Florida’s 1622 Fleet shipwrecks in the Museum’s front courtyard as part of the organization’s 2018 Spring Speaker Series.

Carol’s talk will cover where the ships were coming from, where they were going, and why, along with an in-depth discussion about the legendary silver ‘pieces of eight‘treasure coins of the fleet, with a particular focus on those from the Potosi mint. Those who own Spanish Colonial silver coins and wish to know more about them are invited to bring them to the presentation.

Carol, who has worked with shipwreck projects in North, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Pacific, is author of numerous archaeological mystery articles as well as the monograph, ‘The Deep-Sea Dry Tortugas Shipwreck, Florida (1622): the Silver Coins’ and the book ‘Treasure Coins of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita.’

Her talk follows a Tuesday, February 13 presentation by Don Kincaid on the subject of documenting the fleet, and on Tuesday, February 27, archaeologist Corey Malcom will speak on the ‘History, Archaeology, & Geneology of the Slave Ship Peter Mowell.’ All presentations begin at 6:30 and are free and open to the public.
