Award-winning “Night of the Living” opens February 15th at Key West Theater
Winner of the Best Overall Play at the New York International Fringe Festival, “Night of the Living” by Dave Lankford opens at the Key West Theater February 15th. In the play, which cross-cuts between two distant but parallel nights, Mia and Marshall confront the most intimate and difficult choices of their lives in both humorous and heartbreaking moments as a zombie pandemic quietly infects the couple’s insular world. The New York Times singled out “Night of the Living” as one to watch, calling it “a comic horror love story that goes unusually deep, juxtaposing marital disaster with societal nightmare.”

Starring in the Key West Theater production are Carolyn Cooper, fresh off the sold-out run of “Dancing Lessons” at the Red Barn Theatre, and Julio Trinidad, who last performed to rave reviews at the Key West Theater in the hit play “Locura” by Michael Marrero. Playwright and film director Jon Rhoads directs the play, which takes place both three months prior to and during a zombie pandemic. It was the zombie aspect that initially drew him to the script. “First of all, I love zombies,” he says. “But the fact that it more than just a zombie story, that it is an allegory for a relationship drama, really fascinated me.” Rhoads is no stranger to the Key West stage, having written plays in “One Night Stand” at The Studios of Key West, and “Roshambo” and “129 Miles From Walmart,” at the Key West Theater, among others. In addition to his theatrical work, Rhoads is the director of the award-winning short film “Buzzcut,” which was filmed in Key West and has been shown at more than 40 film festivals worldwide.

“Night of the Living” runs February 15th-March 3rd, and is the first full-length play to be performed in the new Back Room performance space at Key West Theater, located at 512 Eaton Street in Old Town. The production begins at 7pm and runs about 75 minutes without intermission. Seating is limited, and tickets are available by calling (305) 985-0433 or visiting thekeywesttheater.com.
