Key West Art & Historical Society partners with area museums for expanded “Museums & Me” children’s program
To support area families with young children in exploring the wealth of learning opportunities provided by the island’s museums, Key West Art & Historical Society has partnered with other area museums to present an expanded new season of “Museums & Me” early childhood education sessions, led by early childhood educator Natalie Robinson.
Children aged 0-6 and their parents can enjoy social interaction with music and play in a stimulating learning environment on the first and third Saturday of each month through May, with first Saturday’s held on the grounds of the Key West Light House & Keepers Quarters and third Saturday’s of the month taking place at alternating museums.
“The ‘Museums & Me’ program has been explicitly designed to introduce the next generation of museumgoers to the wonderful world of museums,” said Society Director of Education, Adele Williams. “While rolling around on grassy lawns, playing with parachutes, bubbles and musical instruments, young families are exposed to the history and culture of their island home.”
Upcoming “Museums & Me” dates and locations are: January 20, Harry S. Truman Little White House Museum, 111 Front Street; February 3, Key West Lighthouse & Keepers Quarters, 938 Whitehead Street; February 17, West Martello Tower, 1100 Atlantic Blvd.; March 3, Key West Lighthouse & Keepers Quarters; March 17, Fort East Martello Museum, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd.
“Museums & Me” sessions run from 10:00-11:30am, and are free for Society members, $5 for non-members. Families are encouraged to bring refreshments and blankets.
