Key West Half Marathon Announces New Expo Sponsor: Keys Auto Center, part of the Warren Henry Auto Group
(Key West, Florida Keys) — The Key West Half Marathon, celebrating its 20th Anniversary, is proud to have in the Expo the Warren Henry Auto Group Miami’s premier family-run-and-operated car company with dealerships across South and North Florida, and most recently Key West. In business for more than four decades and three generations, Warren Henry Auto Group has built an esteemed reputation through its commitment to service excellence, superior quality, unwavering community support, and its Advantage program. The Group comprises a diverse portfolio of car brands including Jaguar, Land Rover, Infiniti, Audi, Lamborghini, Toyota, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep.
The Expo is taking place on Friday, Jan. 12th & Saturday, Jan. 13 in conjunction with the Half Marathon on Sunday. The race is acclaimed as one of the U.S.’ leading winter half marathons. The Keys Auto Center will have several of their vehicles on display at the race Expo and one will lead the Half Marathon.
“In a year like we’ve had, it’s great to have local businesses want to be so involved with our 20th Anniversary celebration,” said Barbara Wright, event founder and co-organizer. “We’re trying to support the locals, too, by encouraging runners to contribute to the local Habitat for Humanity organization. So far, our race participants have contributed a significant amount of money to the cause.”
More than 12 other charities annually receive a portion of the race’s proceeds, the largest of which is Key West’s Sunrise Rotary. The Rotary uses the funds for their Key West High School scholarship program. Others are: Womankind, Zonta Club of Key West, Southernmost Coconut Castaways, Key West middle and high school athletic programs; One World One Campus, Sigsbee Charter School, and the Coast Guard Committee.
Contributions are thanks to nearly forty– five hundred runners who compete in both the Half Marathon and also the 5K Run.
Now in its 20th year, the race has earned prestigious kudos including being noted as a must-do or “bucket list” half marathon in both “Runner’s World” and “Competitor” magazines. Over the years, Wright said, it has attracted participants from every U.S. state and more than 30 other countries to compete in the Florida Keys’ subtropical January climate.
The half-marathon will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the corner of Key West’s Caroline and Grinnell streets and proceed on a flat, fast 13.1-mile course through the island city’s scenic Old Town and Atlantic Ocean shoreline. The associated 5K run will start at 7:30 a.m. In true Key West style, an awards ceremony and post-race party are scheduled with entertainment by Howard Livingston & the Mile Marker 24 Band.
