FHP – update on hit and run fatality
This is an update on the Hit and Run from US1 @ the 26.5 Mile Marker involving a fatality.
A tip was called into the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to Summerland Key to check out a sighting of the truck possibly involved in the fatal Hit and Run. When deputies observed the vehicle, they requested the Florida Highway Patrol respond.
A warrant was obtained and the vehicle has been impounded as part of this on-going Homicide Investigation. The quick location and identification of the truck involved in this crime were made possible due to the tremendous amount of information received from the community, supported by the strong partnership between the Florida Highway Patrol and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Ramsay has encouraged FHP investigator to utilize all resources of the MCSO they need to assist in their investigation. That partnership was critical to identifying the vehicle.
We are still actively looking to positively identify the driver of the vehicle from this crime. The Person of Interest was described as a white male, late 20’s to early 30’s.
