MARY LOU HOOVER to Seek District 5 City Commission Seat

Mary Lou Hoover has announced her decision to seek the District 5 City Commission seat in the upcoming August 28th election. Ms. Hoover noted, “Serving you as your next City Commissioner is a natural progression for me after years of work for local businesses, fundraising for non-profits, and creating the Girls Night Out networking organization.

A former Queen of Fantasy Fest, Hoover served on the Board of Directors for the Key West Business Guild and was in charge of the Guild’s membership committee when the organization reached 500 members. She also served on the Board of Directors and as President of Helpline of the Florida Keys and currently champions awareness of suicide prevention.

Hoover completed Leadership Monroe County in 2015 and led her class project on suicide awareness. She also helped raise funds to purchase billboard and bus stop advertising to promote local and national suicide hotlines. That same year, Mary Lou organized the 1st Annual Key West Out of the Darkness walk for suicide prevention. She has continued her work to raise awareness about mental illness and suicide.
