MORE THAN 1 MILLION CUBIC YARDS OF HURRICANE DEBRIS COLLECTED IN UNINCORPORATED MONROE COUNTY, LAYTON AND ALONG OVERSEAS HIGHWAY

Monroe County’s and FDOT’s hurricane debris removal contractors have combined to collect more than 1,012,000 cubic yards of debris and more than 5,500 white goods (major appliances) from County roads and along the Overseas Highway since Hurricane Irma struck onSept. 10.

Collection Continues in Hardest Hit Areas: MM 16 to MM 40

In the hardest hit areas of the Keys, between Mile Marker 16 and Mile Marker 40, more than 417,400 cubic yards of debris have been collected, including 351,036 in the neighborhoods.

Collections are continuing as quickly as possible in those neighborhoods. Regular garbage and yard waste collection also is taking place.

At this time, residential hurricane debris can be taken to any of the County’s three transfer stations for free disposal by County residential customers.

Final Sweeps Underway: Key Largo, Tavernier, Conch Key, Duck Key, Layton, Between MM 5 & MM 15

Final sweeps for hurricane debris began Sunday in Key Largo, Tavernier, Conch Key, Duck Key Layton and between Mile Marker 5 on Stock Island and Mile Marker 15 on Bay Point.

Oct. 28 was the deadline to put hurricane debris on the County right of way for guaranteed free pickup. Final sweeps will take several days to complete.

All hurricane debris put out by the Oct. 28 deadline in those areas will be collected. Residents who put hurricane debris on the County right of way (curbside) after that deadline – and it was not collected – must contact the solid waste company in their area to collect it. Illegal Dumping

If you are a resident who lives in Key Largo, Tavernier, Conch Key, Duck Key, Layton and Between MM 5 and MM 15, do not dump hurricane debris along U.S. 1 now. It could be considered illegal dumping.

It is illegal to dump hurricane debris on vacant lots that you don’t own.
