Message from British Ambassador Kim Darroch on Hurrican Irma

Earlier today, Dave Prodger Consul General in Miami briefed the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon about our preparations on Hurricane Irma hitting Florida.

This is one of the biggest storms to hit Florida in history, and we are doing everything we can, working round the clock in London, in Miami, and here in Washington to support and ensure the safety of British citizens.

We’ve been in touch with local authorities. We are talking to British airlines and British travel companies to do all we can to support Brits. We’ve had teams in Miami and Orlando airports helping with emergency travel documents and supporting those who have left before the hurricane hits. And we have teams on standby ready to get to the airports as soon as they reopen.

The message to British citizens: Stay safe, monitor our travel advice, and follow instructions of local authorities.
