Cozumel Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Happy kids watch on this morning as Key West City officials cut the ribbon on the newly refurbished Cozumel Park on 19th Terrace in New Town. The park features basketball court, slides, a covered pavilion, and a splash pad perfect for cooling off from the summer head. In addition, it features a playing field named in the honor of Jonathan Wells, the 14-year old son of a Key West Firefighter who died in 2015 in a tragic accident. Wells loved baseball and was a member of the Key West Little Conch Baseball League.
Following the ribbon-cutting, elected officials joined friends, family and colleagues of the Wells family to unveil the sign for the park and honoring the Jonathan Wells Memorial Field.
In the ribbon photo: Mayor Craig Cates, Commissioner Richard Payne, City Manager Jim Scholl, Commissioner Billy Wardlow (wielding the scissors), and Commissioners Margaret Romero and Sam Kaufman.
