Department of Health Hosting Upcoming Community Meetings
Florida Department of Health in Monroe will be presenting public health survey results for Stock Island, Marathon, and Key Colony Beach
Monroe County, FL – The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County recently completed three community health assessments involving resident input in the Stock Island, Marathon, and Key Colony Beach. The department is inviting members of the community to participate in three upcoming community meetings where research specialists will be presenting the results of these assessments. These three communities were chosen as part of the department’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which aims to conduct community health assessments in each area of the Florida Keys over the next several years, develop partnerships to address the community-identifies issues, and help improve the quality of life and health of residents.
The questionnaire contained the same format for each area. Sample size was calculated based on the population of the area. The first part of the survey was open-ended and asked residents to share the top concerns they feel their community faces. The second part contained 20 closed-ended (yes/no) questions pertaining to behavioral health and public health awareness. The meetings will also present information about what residents in each of these areas are saying with regard to bicycle safety, physical activity, healthy eating behaviors, access to healthcare, drug activity, crime, mosquitoes, and more.
Residents and community partners are welcome to attend any of the upcoming community meetings. Refreshments will be served. The first 30 participants for each meeting will also receive free headphone earbuds.
