Nationally-Recognized ‘Stem’ Program Contract Up For Action At Upcoming School Board Meeting
WHO: School Board Members, Executive Leadership Team, the Public, GEMS Honorees
WHAT: The School Board plans to meet next week. School Board Members will workshop school start times, drug testing, and see a Career and Technical Education presentation, to address the progress of the program and the students involved from the middle keys. Superintendent Mark Porter plans to review and discuss the expert opinions of the District’s transportation department, the general research available, and public input from the three sessions held throughout the District. The Executive Director of Operations and Planning will also present a construction update, as the District prepares for major reconstruction at three schools: Stanley Switlik Elementary, Plantation Key School, and Gerald Adams Elementary.
The Board will act on the NMSI (National Math and Science Initiative) Summer Institute contract, a nationally-recognized program used to train teachers to teach STEM-related AP courses and English, for high school-level students. Other items for board action include two student discipline cases, and a list of second reading policies. Both the workshop and the board meeting are open to the public.
