Mammography of Key West is now providing locals with an alternative

Breast cancer is no laughing matter.
In 2015 alone, an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed among U.S. women, along with some 60,290 additional cases of “in situ,” or localized, non-metastasized breast cancer.
That same year the disease claimed the lives of over 40,000 women in this country, making it the second most deadly form of cancer around for the female gender.
For as long as most Key Westers can remember, women seeking their annual mammogram had just two choices: The local hospital – or the highway to Miami.
Since October, however, a third option has appeared.
Mammography of Key West is now offering digital mammography screening, diagnostic mammography, and breast ultrasound at its American College of Radiology-certified facility, at 2503 Flagler Ave.
“For the first time, locals looking for a mammogram are going to have an alternative to the hospital,” said Deena Richardson, the clinic’s nurse manager. “We offer quality services, delivered in a courteous and efficient manner, at an extremely reasonable price. Our clients also don’t have to fill out multiple forms, or wait around to be seen. Key West women, and their families, have reason to celebrate!”
Key West Mammography accepts most insurance all of which which, by law, must cover 100 percent of the cost of a screening mammogram once a year. Self-paying clients may also access the service for $159.
Walk-in visits are welcome, and women over the age of 40 are legally permitted to self-refer to the clinic, without a doctor’s requisition. All mammography results are interpreted by a board-certified radiologist, with over 40 years of experience, and copies of all reports are then sent to the client’s designated physician, for a follow-up visit.
“Our clinic is a great alternative for women looking to have this potentially life-saving procedure done,” said Mammographer Shari Ash. “We use state-of-the-art equipment, which makes it painless, and quick. Women should not be afraid to come and get a mammogram.”
Mammography of Key West is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
