Man dies while snorkeling

A man from Garden City, New York died while snorkeling offshore of the Upper Keys yesterday.

70 year old John Kollar was snorkeling from the commercial vessel Reef Roamer when crewmembers noticed he was face down in the water and unresponsive. They pulled Kollar onto the boat. He was not breathing so they performed CPR as they returned to shore. Paramedics met the vessel at Port Largo homeowners park. Kollar was transported by ambulance to Mariner’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death.
