Eugene Robinson to speak March 6 at Key West Friends of the Library speaker series
Monday, March 6, the Key West Friends of the Library will welcome Pulitzer prize winning journalist and author, Eugene Robinson to the podium. Lectures in the series are at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St. Admission is free. They begin promptly at 6:00 p.m., but seating begins at 5:30 on a first come first served basis.
Since Eugene Robinson began work at the Washington Post in 1980, he has been a correspondent in Buenos Aires and London, was city editor and foreign editor, and columnist on the Op-Ed page.
His Pulitzer prize in 2009 was for his eloquent columns on the 2008 presidential campaign, focusing on the election of the first African-American president, in which he ‘showcased graceful writing and a grasp of the larger historic picture’.
Robinson is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and has received numerous other journalism awards. He currently writes a widely-syndicated twice-weekly opinion column on politics and culture, contributes to the Post’s PostPartisan blog, and conducts weekly online chat with readers. He also appears regularly as a commentator on MSNBC and appears regularly as a panelist on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Robinson’s newspaper columns are generally from a liberal perspective. Recent subjects have included “The Trump era is a leap in the dark”, “Fighting Gorsuch is hopeless. Democrats should do it anyway” and “Trumpism is all tantrums, all the time”.
He has written three books: Coal to Cream: A Black Man’s Journey Beyond Color to an Affirmation of Race, Last Dance in Havana: The Final Days of Fidel and the Start of the New Cuban Revolution, and Disintegration: The Splintering of Black America.
He and his wife, the artist Avis Collins Robinson, are frequent visitors to Key West.
