FRINGE THEATER PRESENTS COCK TALK
Following a long tradition of supporting original scripts, Fringe Theater Key West opens ‘Cock Talk,’ a new play written by Key West local Wayne Keller. It runs Feb 22-26 at 7pm in the Side Bar, located at 504 Angela Street in the Aqua Night Club complex.
“The script literally showed up on my doorstep within days of the announcement that I would be the new artistic director for Fringe. I was intrigued by the title (of course) and liked the premise,” explains Rebecca Tomlinson, who is serving as the show’s chaperone. “So I called the playwright and said we’d be open to producing it if he’d be open to developing the script further.”
The show is a show within a show. Three friends get together to present what they see as a male version of The Vagina Monologues. But the show doesn’t go according to plan, and the guys are forced to rethink their … positions.
“I wrote the play ten years ago and moved on with my life which included getting married and raising kids,” Wayne Keller explained. “So when Rebecca asked me to reconsider where the plays goes and the journey the men take, it made sense. My perspective on life has changed in the last ten years. Now the play reflects that.”
The play is (very) adult and features four (very) funny men: Chad Newman, Don Beardon, John Reynolds, and Pony Charvet. Pony, who is also the play’s director, adds, “It’s true, the show has adult themes. And it pushes the envelope. But it also explores what it’s like to be a guy just trying to figure things out.”
Since this is the first staging of a new script, Fringe is planning to host an audience talk-back at the end of each performance.
Cock Talk is sponsored by Aqua, Stoli, and the Island House Resort. The (adult) audience is invited to come early to this (adult) show to enjoy an (adult) beverage in the Side Bar. House opens at 6:30pm. Show starts at 7pm, Feb 22-26. Seating is limited. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.fringetheater.org or by calling 305-731-0581.
