Raffi Freedman-Gurspan is an American transgender woman who was hired by President Barack Obama as an Outreach and Recruitment Director in the Presidential Personnel Office at the White House. She became the first openly transgender person in history to be a member of staff at the White House.
In 2016 it was announced that President Barack Obama had appointed Freedman-Gurspan as the White House’s primary LGBT liaison, making her the first openly transgender person in the role. Freedman-Gurspan is a longtime advocate and public policy specialist on matters concerning human rights, gender, and LGBT people.
