Connoisseurs of the cocktail will be intoxicated by “The Hemingway Experience,” a special Key West Art & Historical Society party and presentation set for Friday, January 27 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum courtyard, featuring special guests John Hemingway, grandson of Ernest Hemingway, and Phil Greene, mixologist and author of “To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion.”
Greene, an attorney, writer, cocktail historian, and co-founder of the Museum of the American Cocktail, will offer an evening of anecdotes, excerpts and delicious drinks from the pages of Hemingway’s novels, short stories, letters and more. His entertaining presentation will leave attendees thirsty for more, revealing vintage photos, folklore, and the recipes behind the drinks Hemingway loved so much. His book “To Have and Have Another” has received critical acclaim from The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Food & Wine, Wine Enthusiast, Garden & Gun, Kirkus Reviews, HuffingtonPost.com, and many others, and remains a best seller in its category. He is also a Brand Ambassador and consultant for the Hemingway Rum Co., and their new line of award-winning rums under the Papa’s Pilar brand.
John Hemingway’s engaging presentation on running with the bulls and “The Pamplona Posse” (as inspired by his grandfather’s novel “The Sun Also Rises”) will be presented the evening prior at the San Carlos Institute on Thursday, January 26 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
“The Hemingway Experience,” which will also include light, tasty edibles and music, is sponsored in part by the Helmerich Trust and the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council of the Arts and Culture and the State of Florida. Additional support provided by the Marriott Key West Beachside Resort, Papa’s Pilar Rum, Peychaud’s Aperitivo, and Dolin Vermouth.
