MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 7:30 PM, “ABOVE AND BEYOND”, a 2014 documentary by Nancy Spielberg, youngest sister of Steven Spielberg, that tells the story of the American, foreign and Israeli pilots who flew warplanes to help defend the new state of Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Their efforts were the beginning of the Israeli Air Force.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20th, 7:30 PM – “BY SIDNEY LUMET”, a documentary that features clips from Lumet’s films – 44 films made in 50 years- including “SERPICO“, “DOG DAY AFTERNOON“, ” 12 ANGRY MEN, “NETWORK” and “BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD. Lumet’s strongly moral tales capture the concerns of a society struggling with essentials: how does one behave to others and to oneself.
MONDAY, March 20th, 7:30 PM – ” MARVIN HAMLISCH: WHAT HE DID FOR LOVE”, a 2013 documentary which chronicles the life and music of Marvin Hamlisch and features Woody Allen, Barbra Streisand and Ann Margaret. Waterfront Playhouse Artistic Director, Danny Weathers, who performed in the 1978 New York production of “A CHORUS LINE” will be on hand to talk about his experience working with Hamlisch.
MONDAY, April 17th, 7:30 PM – “MORGENTHAU”‘ winner of a New York Emmy for Best Historical Program. Award winning documentarian Max Lewkowicz draws on archival records and over 70 interviews with noted historians, journalists, politicians and the Morgenthau family and friends, including former President Bill Clinton, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, former NYC Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Ed Koch, and journalist and author Tom Brokaw.
