Letter to the Editor / WHO WILL STAND UP TO FOREIGN ATTACK ?

Roger C. Kostmayer
When the US is attacked, our nation comes together and partisan politics disappear.  We’re Americans first and understand that failure to unite and confront existential threats to our constitutional democracy invites disaster.  That’s our history, it’s in our DNA and must continue to be if the US is to survive as leader of the free world.
Two days after the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the American intelligence community and the CIA made it known Russia cyber-attacked the US to help Trump win the presidency.  President Obama ordered briefings for senior US officials and a “full review”.  Several Senators, from both parties, confirmed the secret report and its conclusions, suggesting the need for Congressional hearings.  By contrast, the benighted Trump transition team dismissed the intelligence findings and ridiculed the CIA.  Compounding this bizarre reaction are reports that FBI Director Comey had, but didn’t release, the Russian political attack information and its objective well before election day.  These events raise the question of the allegiance of a President elect and senior government officials and advisors – is it to a political party, a foreign adversary like Russia, or to the US Constitution?
Generations of Americans who lived through a World War, a cold war against Russia, and defended their country, see dismissal of: US intelligence conclusions; cyber-attacks, hacking and manipulating US elections; and scheduled intelligence briefings by a Commander in Chief, as dangerous to our nation and bordering on traitorous.
