New Parking Rate
Effective immediately, parking rates at City owned pay-to-park areas, including parking lots and on-street parking will increase by $1 per hour.
Cars with residential parking stickers, however, will be able to park for up to four hours at no charge in three parking facilities: the Park N Ride on the corner of Grinnell and James streets, the Historic Bight lot on Caroline St., and the Fire Station #2 lot at the corner of Angela and Simonton streets.
The new parking rate was approved this week by the City Commission. Portions of this extra dollar are earmarked for the Transportation Alternatives Fund and Affordable Housing Fund, which will invest in projects and programs to ease traffic congestion and the cost of living in Key West.
The first project of the Transportation Alternatives Fund will be a downtown loop bus connecting the Duval Street corridor with the Historic Key West Bight. The free bus is expected to launch this spring.
Residential permits can be purchased for $10 at the Monroe County Tax Collectors office at the Harvey Government Center at 1200 Truman Ave. Applicants will need to show a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of residency.
