Detective Sgt. Barrios Retires
The Key West Police Department and Chief Donie Lee presented retiring Detective Sgt. Bernardo “Bear” Barrios with an award this week thanking him for his nearly 30 years of service to the Key West Police Department.
He started his career with the Department in 1989 as a patrol officer and was made a detective in 1993. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003, and retired as Detective Sergeant. He was named Officer of the Year in 1990. During his tenure, Sgt. Barrios received many letters of commendation from several chiefs of police as well as from members of the community. He earned recognition from the DEA as well as other law enforcement agencies with whom he and his unit worked to curtail drug activities.
During a farewell gathering at the VFW Post 3911 this, Sgt. Barrios’s colleagues commended him for his dedication, his professionalism and the amazing level of integrity that he brought to the department. Although retiring from active duty, Sgt. Barrios will remain a reserve officer with the Key West Police Department.
