Man pleads guilty to making illegal campaign contributions

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Florida man has pleaded guilty in Maine to making illegal campaign contributions in the names of others during the U.S. presidential primary campaign in 2011.

Michael Liberty, of Windermere, Florida, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to one count of making the contributions in others’ names.

Court documents say the 56-year-old Liberty ran several companies in Maine. He made $22,500 in primary contributions through nine employees, associates and family members to the principal campaign committee of a candidate for president between May and June 2011. He paid for all of contributions.

It wasn’t immediately known which candidate received the contributions.
