Equality Florida Brings Back The Danish Girl

In recognition of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, Equality Florida will be screening THE DANISH GIRL on Sunday, November 20 at 6:15 p.m. at the Tropic Cinema. November 20th is observed around the world in recognition of the Transgender community which suffers extraordinary discrimination and violence in today’s society.THE DANISH GIRL stars Eddie Redmayne who was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar and Alicia Vicander who won an Oscar for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. The film is a fictionalized account of the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Elbe was one of the first people to undergo sex reassignment surgery. At 5:45 p.m., a champagne reception will precede the film. Sponsored by Equality Florida, there will be no admission charge. Free tickets may be picked up at the box office or reserved by contacting Jane Ireland at [email protected] or 305-433-3511. Seating is limited to 48.

There will be a short discussion after the film. At approximately 8:30 p.m., those attending the film will be joined by the public for a candlelight vigil at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at the corner of Eaton and Duval where the names of those in the Transgender community who have been murdered in the past year will be read.
