Collection of hazardous household and electronic waste

Monroe County’s Solid Waste Department took in 1,760 pounds of household hazardous waste and 1,640 pounds of electronic waste during a special collection Nov. 4 at the Marathon Public Works Yard.

Some electronics contain poisonous chemicals that can be toxic to both humans and the environment. Recycling electronic waste properly prevents these chemicals from escaping into the environment. It also allows materials to be reused and re-engineered for new and innovative products.
