NCAA grants Florida State’s White immediate eligibility

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State women’s basketball player Chatrice White has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.

The 6-foot-3 junior center from Shelby, Nebraska, transferred from Illinois in May. White averaged 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, had 18 double-double games as was named to the Big Ten’s all-conference second team.

Florida State coach Sue Semrau said Friday that White will add to the Seminoles’ low-post game and gives the team tremendous depth. White also had 56 3-pointers in two seasons at Illinois.

White was a 2014 McDonald’s High School All-American and was named to the Big Ten’s all-freshman team in 2014-15.

Florida State begins practice Oct. 3 and opens the season Nov. 11 against Jacksonville State. Three days later the Seminoles, who have made the Sweet 16 the past two seasons, will host defending national champion Connecticut.
