Memories

My Dear Readers,

Life here at Chippewa Lake, Ohio has been very special.  It has been a hot summer….here it’s Sept. and today it is 90 and feels like 97!  Come the weekend, it is dipping into the 70’s!  A relief! Of course, we always miss Key West when we are here and look forward to seeing you all around October 15.
Bob and I have been so saddened to hear about the great losses our Key West Community has endured.  We lost, in a very short time, Ed Block and Ed Knight and Kathy Cawley, three of our town’s major cheerleaders.
And now, we are overwhelmed with the very distressing news about the loss of Connie Gilbert.  My understanding is that there will be a celebration of Connie’s life on Thursday (tomorrow), Sept. 8 at 4:30 pm.  It will be a New Orleans second line, starting at the entrance of the Key West cemetery.  All are invited to bid adieu to our Connie who loved Key West and who always stood up for everything she believed in….even when it wasn’t popular. We admired her chutzpah, and I am sure you did too.  You can send messages of sympathy to her dear son, Shad Neiss at 7 Diamond Dr., Key West, FL 33040.  Connie Gilbert….tiny in stature…but great in spirit… a real dynamo who loved Key West and the people who lived there.  We will miss her greatly.
Perhaps you have also heard of this very upsetting news.  Our dear friend, Keith Dempster, just lost his beloved nephew, Kyle Dempster…age 33, who, with his climbing partner, vanished without a trace on their attempt at scaling the Pakistani mountain, know as ‘The Ogre.’  Rescue began on 8/28 after they failed to return to base camp on 8/26.After a long search and encountering terrible weather, the family called off the search citing bad weather and the time that had elapsed.  Kyle and his partner were considered two of the most accomplished Alpinists of their generation.  Please keep the Dempster family in your prayers. Note that Kyle’s father, Tom, Keith’s only brother, passed away suddenly during this past year.  Great, great losses.
You can send notes of sympathy to Keith Dempster (and Red) at 474 Durand Rd., Randolph, NH 03593.
You can contact the mother of Kyle at: Terry Dempster…6228 Haven Moor Circle…Salt Lake City, Utah 84121.
Losing all these wonderful persons, makes me realize more and more, how precious life is and how life is to be lived each day while we are here.  I send love and hugs to each of you from Rose Cottage….and I look forward to seeing you all in October!
Love,
Lynda
