Community Cares Outstanding Employees Announced

Lower Keys Medical Center is proud to announce that Jolene Evans, Registered Nurse in Maternal Infant Child Care Unit, Tammy Staples, Physical Therapist in Rehabilitation Services and Sandra Harry, Nurse Assistant in Maternal Infant Child Care Unit have been recognized with the monthly Community Cares Outstanding Employee Award. They are being recognized for their contributions for creating and maintaining a culture and practice of outstanding service to our employees, physicians, patients, families and visitors. We thank them for their commitment to the Community Cares culture by helping to create a great place for employees to work, physicians to practice medicine, and patients to receive care.

Jolene Evans, RN is mentioned positively in discharge phone calls all the time and you had several recent patient survey comments that stated, “Jolene is a really good nurse,” and Jolene was just excellent!” A patient wrote in a handwritten card, “To the maternity staff, including Jolene, thank you for making our dreams come true! Our baby was born healthy and we are so grateful to all of you for making a very difficult time in our lives so bearable. We had a great experience in your care!” A co-worker also sent you a kudos saying, “Jolene is always kind to everyone and helpful even during her busiest time. The patients love you and one family even stopped me in the hall to tell me how great you are!”

“Jolene has been with the MICCU for over 2 years starting as a new graduate on the unit and is now a primary labor and delivery nurse,” said her Director. “Jolene is a natural in labor and delivery with a gentle and caring bedside manner. I have seen Jolene go from being just oriented to being a leader on our unit. Jolene receives constant praises from her patients in the form of cards, letters and discharge phone calls.  Patients consistently thank her for her guidance in the most important moment of their lives; the birth of their child. It is obvious that Jolene just loves what she is doing.  We are very fortunate to have her working with us on the MICCU.”

Tammy Staples, PT had a few recent patient comments that said, “Tammy was my therapist and she did a really wonderful job,” and “Tammy helped me push myself farther than I ever believed I could!” The last comment stated, “Tammy is wonderful!”

Tammy is conscientious and detail oriented professional; which gives her a unique ability to customize each care plan to target the specific needs of any particular patient,” said her Director of Rehabilitation Services. “Tammy has a strong moral compass and always seeks to do the right thing in any situation. She cares deeply for her patients and treats each one as a unique human being, deserving of respect, dignity, and your best effort. Tammy has brought over 20 years of experience changing patient’s lives with her to Lower Keys Medical Center and we are very lucky to have her as part of our staff.”

Sandra Harry, NA was mentioned several times during patient rounds. One patient said, “Sandra was our aide the prior night and as a first time mother I was afraid of everything; even picking up my own baby. Sandra brought calm over me and my partner. I felt like Sandra was like a mother figure and spent hours teaching me about newborn care and even showed me how to bathe my baby. I cannot say enough good things about Ms. Harry!” Another patient said, “Sandra was one of the many amazing individuals who were involved in our care. We came for lobster and got a Conch! We are very happy parents.”

Sandra brings many years of experience to all areas of the MICCU,” said her Director. “Sandra works in pediatrics, obstetrics and nursery, but her true calling is the mother/baby unit. New mothers love her because she puts them at ease, which is not an easy task! Sandra takes her time, answers all of their questions and teaches them about newborn care. Sandra makes her patients feel like she has all the time in the world.  The MICCU nurses are always thankful to see her face at the beginning of their shift. Sandra is constantly striving to learn new things to help her patients, the nurses and the unit as a whole.”
