Annette Taddeo Statement on Payday Lenders

Just yesterday, Google announced that they will no longer run payday loan advertisements on their site in response to concerns that payday lenders prey on low income, working people. I applaud tech leaders for taking the initiative to protect consumers and stand up to exploitative lenders. Between inaction on immigration reform, soaring education costs, and climate change, South Florida residents face enough challenges.

Sadly, our current and former US Representatives have shown no traces of leadership on this issue.  They have acted against the interests of the community and helped payday lenders who continue to take advantage of FL26 residents.

Both Joe Garcia and Carlos Curbelotook money from payday lenders to advance their political careers at the expense of low-income people. Curbelo has even gone so far as to sign a letter to the ConsumerFinancial Protection Bureau defending payday lenders.

I will fight for the people in FL26 and push for better consumer protections in Congress. Our representatives should be working for the people, not private corporations who line their pockets. This is not leadership, this is opportunism and it has to end.
