Florida Senator Anitere Flores (R-Miami) Advocates for HB 499: Ad Valorem Taxation Bill for Timely Funding for Local Entities
MIAMI, FL- During the 2016 Legislative Session in Tallahassee, Florida Senator Anitere Flores (R-Miami) advocated for the HB 499: Ad Valorem Taxation Bill, a law taking the appropriate measures to certify that local entities receive annual funding without lengthy delays.
Led by Senator Flores of Miami District 39 and Representative Bryan Avila of Hialeah, HB 499 reforms statewide the Value Adjustment Board process for resolving property tax disputes, in order for entities such as Miami-Dade County Public Schools and The Children’s Trust to receive funds they deserve in a timely manner. Unanimously passed by both the Florida House and Senate, HB 499 goes into effect on July 1, 2016.
“The fight over property tax appeal has been a longstanding and controversial topic in Miami-Dade County,” said Florida Senator Anitere Flores (R-Miami). “HB 499 is a priority for our district because it will stop short-changing public schools, local entities and most importantly our children of millions of dollars in funding for better education and care. As your State Senator, I will continue advocating to modernize this appeals process, and look forward to implementing the law to adequately ensure that Florida’s future leaders are a priority.”
