Kids Clean up the Town
Key West school kids made Earth Day truly meaningful this year with their excellent efforts to clean up the island, and they had a great time doing it.
St. Mary’s Basilica School had every grade picking up litter and recycling: The lower grades around the school grounds and the upper grades around the surrounding neighborhoods. They picked up about 10 full bags of litter.
Poinciana Recycling Rangers and Student Government came out to Bayview Park, picked up six full bags of litter and helped sort picked up litter into categories. This information will go into the Keep Key West Beautiful litter campaign. Key West’s Community Services helped support the day by delivering cans for the litter sort and by picking up the bags the kids collected up around The Basilica School.
Next year the City’s Solid Waste Coordinator DeeDee Green hopes to see all the schools participate by cleaning up their grounds and their surrounding neighborhoods.
