FKCC Calls Poets And Poetry-Lovers To 9th Annual Poetry Reading

KEY WEST, FL, April 6, 2016—In celebration of National Poetry Month, Florida Keys Community College invites all poetry writers, aficionados, and fans in the community to its Poetry Reading on Thursday, April 14, from 2:00p.m. to 3:30p.m. in the library on the Key West Campus.  Led by Professor Hilary Parmentier’s poetry writing class, the eighth annual event is themed “memories.”  The open mic program will feature recitals of classic, contemporary, and self-crafted poems by students, faculty, staff, and community members.  Refreshments will be provided by the FKCC Book Club.

To set the stage, the students have designed “found poetry” displays in the library by arranging books so their stacked spines create poetic verses.  Instructions are posted to encourage visitors to add their own poems to the display.

“The class this year is excited to continue with the tradition of hosting the event and putting their own spin on it with the display,” said Parmentier.  “They have all kinds of poems to share at the reading and on the display, so it should be fun.”

Anyone interested in sharing poetry at the event is asked to contact Parmentier at [email protected] to schedule a place in the program.
