“The Producers” At The Waterfront
The hottest ticket in town is for “The Producers,” now playing at the Waterfront Playhouse. If you haven’t booked tickets, get them soon since every performance is selling out days in advance. The show runs through March 26th.
Many are calling “The Producers” ‘the best musical ever seen in the Keys!’ It’s certainly one of the largest musical theater productions ever produced on a local stage, featuring multiple sets, over 250 gorgeous costumes and numerous show-stopping production numbers. Diane Johnson wrote in KONK Life, “Full of fun and mayhem ‘The Producers’ is a stunning performance… this musical production is extraordinary entertainment with superb acting.”
Impoverished by a string of flops, New York producer Max Bialystock recruits timid accountant Leo Bloom to help him pull off Broadway’s greatest scam. They aim to produce the worst show ever and run away with millions, but they soon learn that show business can kick you in the teeth.
The winner of the most Tony Awards in Broadway history (12 – including Best Musical!), “The Producers” skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender.” It’s also laugh-out-loud hilarious.
Directed by the Waterfront’s Artistic Director, Danny Weathers, the show features a cast of 19 triple threats; incredible choreography by Carolyn Cooper and Penny Leto; a smoking band of five, led by musical director Michael Fauss; incredible set pieces by Michael Boyer; beautiful lighting by Kim Hanson and the original costume designs by Tony Award-winner William Ivey Long.
The outstanding cast includes Tom Luna*, David Perlman*, Stephanie Sander, David Black, Jeffrey Harwell, Dave Bootle, J. B. McLendon*, Kim Bergman, Carolyn Cooper, Marc Crow, Lawrence Dandridge, Rhett Kalman*, Matthew Kennedy, Jessica Miano Kruel, Kyla Piscopink, Christopher Tanner, Marjorie Paul-Shook, Susannah Wells and Kelsey Wilson
Michael Fauss is the musical director, conductor and keyboardist. The orchestra includes Nancy Hoffman (keyboards), Gary Rivenson (electric guitar), Mark Rose (reeds) and Max Zemanovic (percussion.)
