First Thursday Events At The Studios

First Thursday’s gallery walk is becoming one of the premiere opportunities to check out what’s new at the galleries and shops downtown. On Thursday, February 4 from 6-8pm, visitors to The Studios of Key West can stop in to tour the third floor artist studios, take in two new stunning exhibitions in the Sanger and XOJ Galleries, and browse the latest titles at Books & Books @ The Studios.
A master printmaker, Lou Stovall has spent a lifetime collaborating with the most significant African-Americn artists of the 20th century, and his legendary print workshop in Washington, D.C. has been a haven for artists from Jacob Lawrence to Alexander Calder. This month, The Studios exhibits Stovall’s recent work, as well as several collaborative pieces he’s created with notable artists such as Sam Gilliam, Peter Blume, Paul Reed, and Brockie Stephenson. A reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, February 4 from 6-8pm. The show remains on view through February 25.
Also opening that evening is “KW SKIN” by Michael A. Philip. “KW SKIN” is a collection of portraits of 19 men and 20 women ages 67 and over who make Key West their home and who bring their own distinctive edge and personal flair to our island – showing that our island is a place you can age with style.
On Thursday night, visitors can also stop by the newest addition to The Studios. Books & Books @ The Studios opens with over 75 running feet of shelves and 2,500 titles, so its offerings are broad as well as deep, featuring local authors and art books alongside the latest best sellers and more.
The Studios of Key West is located at 533 Eaton Street. More information about their programs can be found at www.tskw.org.
